ABILENE -- All Saints is moving on in the Class 2A playoffs after slugging past Weatherford Christian on Saturday.
The Patriots swept past the Lady Lions 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 to punch a ticket in the state semifinals against reigning state champion Ovilla Christian on Tuesday.
“With a lot of different things going against us this year, the team really came together and played for our only senior (Paige Schlehuber), hoping to get her to state,” second-year Patriots coach Levi Savage said.
A familiar core group gain led All Saints (14-3-1):
Schlehuber logged 10 kills and 6 aces
Haley Dickerson led the Patriots with 27 digs and added 4 aces
Chloe Conover recorded 9 kills and 7 digs
Jayden Johnson topped her team with 26 assists to go with 5 digs
Lauren Bayouth chimed in with 6 kills and 3 aces
All Saints and Ovilla Christian (22-5-2) met in the regional round last season with the Lady Eagles nabbing a four-set victory after dropping the first set. Ovilla Christian rode that momentum to the 2A state championship later that week.
The state semifinal will played be at a time and site to be determined.
Pantego ends Trinity’s repeat bid
ABILENE -- There will be new champion in Class 4A.
Pantego Christian made sure that will happen by knocking off perennial powerhouse Trinity Christian in three sets Saturday -- 25-20, 25-14, 25-13.
The loss snaps the Lions’ six-year streak of advancing to the state semifinals and prevents them from winning a fifth state crown in the last seven years. Pantego (17-3) moves on to face Arlington Grace Prep in the state semifinals.
Maddie Grace Ritchie led Trinity (10-7-1) with 7 kills and contributed 12 digs. Zaiah Buchanan put the ball on the floor 5 times.
Defensively, Kiley Irlbeck paced the Lions with 19 digs and Victoria Sosebee chipped in with 8. Bonnee Busby was solid all over the court with 16 assists and 7 digs.
