Coronado's Kirby Stanek gets under the ball to send it back over the net.

Three city showdowns headline the Tuesday slate of volleyball action in and around the Hub City.

Coronado hosts Monterey at 6:30 p.m. in a match that looms large for the Lady Mustangs in the ongoing survival of the fittest for the fourth playoff seed from District 3-5A.

With six matches to go, Coronado, Lubbock-Cooper and Caprock all sit in a logjam at 5-5 behind Randall, Amarillo and the Lady Plainsmen – whose only two league losses have come at the hands of the teams above them.

The Lady Mustangs own a victory against Monterey this season on the final day of the Frenship Tournament, but the Lady Plainsmen survived in  a magnificent district match 25-22, 29-27, 19-25, 23-25, 16-14 on Sept. 6.

Trinity Christian plays host to Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m. in TAPPS District 1-4A play. The two rivals meet for the first time this season and both are brimming with confidence after recent success.
