SAN ANGELO -- Coronado and Frenship got the weekend started right with three victories apiece Friday at the Nita Vannoy Classic.

The Lady Mustangs topped Colorado City (25-7, 25-7), the San Angelo Central JV (25-19, 25-12) and Presidio (25-11, 25-13).

Aaliyah Gray paced Coronado (8-4) with 24 kills, 17 digs and 11 aces. Carson Edwards added 16 kills, 12 digs and 11 aces. Kirby Stanek led the Lady Mustangs with 49 assists, whole Belle Burks had 14 aces.

Frenship breezed after a tough test in its first game of the day, rolling past Wall (25-20, 25-11), Sterling City (25-5, 25-7) and Del Rio (25-7, 25-4).

Kayton Genenbacher controlled the day with 47 assists, Gracie Harrison finished with 26 digs and 14 kills and Kendall Mahaney was a catalyst with 18 digs.

The Lady Tigers (10-5) advanced to the gold bracket and will tanglw with Bronte at 11 a.m. Saturday, while Coronado faces Snyder at 10 a.m.

Lady Plainsmen claim bracket top spot in Haltom City; Lady Westerners nab pair of wins

HALTOM CITY -- On the opening day of the Haltom Bluffs Tournament, Monterey senior Taylor Salsky put on a show.

Paced by Salsky, the Lady Plainsmen barreled to three victories to win their pool without dropping a game. Salsky notched 50 assists, 15 aces, 9 digs and 7 kills in a dominant all-around performance.

Monterey rolled past Bishop Dunne (25-15, 25-8), Weatherford (25-15, 25-11) and Killeen Shoemaker (25-5, 25-11).

Besides Salsky’s effort, Monterey (10-3) got 21 digs and 4 aces from Meagan Jimenez and Maddi Stephens recorded 20 kills.

Monterey (10-3), on a seven-match winning streak, plays in the gold bracket of the tournament and is set to pick up action at 10 a.m. Saturday against Hillsboro.

Lubbock High was also in action at the same tournament, going 2-1.

The Lady Westerners opened the day by topping South Hills (26-24, 25-20), squeezed past Lincoln (25-22, 25-18) and then tumbled to DeSoto (25-22, 25-17).

Kennedy Scheppler was a consistent presence for Lubbock High (7-8) with 5 kills in each match to go with 14 digs. Camille Webb also made an impact with 11 assists and a pair of aces.

The Lady Westerners take on Everman at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Friona holds off Lady Mats in three sets

LITTLEFIELD -- Estacado pushed Friona to the edge on the second day of the Littlefield Tournament before drooping a three-set match (25-18, 24-26, 25-20).

C’Kyra Sims was a force for the Lady Mats (4-7) with 15 kills, 12 digs and 2 blocks. Vaniya Davis led Estacado with 13 assists and Kaylee Rangel recorded 10 digs.

Lady Patriots surge to trio of victories

AMARILLO -- All Saints took down three foes in tight matches at the River Road Tournament.

The Lady Patriots outlasted Sanford-Fritch (26-24, 25-18), River Road (25-19, 25-23) and Levelland (25-16, 25-23) to claim one of the top spots for bracket play on Saturday.

Elise Headrick led All Saints (7-4) with 30 assists, while Haley Dickerson recorded 22 digs and 10 aces. Paige Schlehuber added 10 kills and 7 digs.

The Lady Saints are back in action at 9 a.m. Saturday vs. Plainview.

Lady Eagles win four of six games at Grace Prep tournament

ARLINGTON -- Four Lubbock Christian seniors combined for 15 aces and the Lady Eagles averaged a 2.3 pass rating (on a 3.0 scale) during first-day action the Grace Prep Tournament.

Lubbock Christian knocked off Calvary Christian (25-5, 25-20), topped Lake Country by virtue of a point spread after splitting two matches (lost 25-20, won 25-19) and fell to Prince of Peace (25-16, 25-21).

Katie Lee led the Lady Eagles (6-3) with 5 aces, Ali Torres logged 4 and Haley Brewer and Jacey Lam chipped in with 3 apiece.

Tournament against Community Christian at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The tournament continues Saturday when Lubbock Christian takes on Community Christian at 9 a.m.
