DENTON -- Lubbock-Cooper roared back from a season-opening loss by dismantling three opponents on the first day of the Denton Ryan Kick-Off Classic on Thursday.

The Lady Pirates romped past Plano Coram Deo Academy 25-13, 25-6, West Mesquite 25-8, 25-4 and Jarrell 25-9, 25-12. Shelby Snead recorded 37 assists and 13 digs to lead the way, while libero Kate Siegel led Cooper (3-1) with 32 digs. Kaitlyn Mayo provided 16 kills and Tatum Farmer had 12. Haleigh Douglass chimed in with 8 aces.

Lubbock High was also in Denton and nabbed its first victory of the season against Pilot Point (20-25, 25-19, 25-21) before falling to Springtown (25-10, 25-21) and Chisholm Trail (25-17, 25-8). The Lady Westerners (1-4) turned in a top-notch team effort in the first match, led by Kennedy Scheppler’s 9 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs. Freshman Samantha Manning recorded 3 kills, 4 aces, 8 assists and 1.5 blocks. Camille Webb paced the offense with 12 assists and Kaitlyn Garcia held down the defense with 11 digs. Scheppler supplied 5 digs, 4 kills and a pair of aces in the loss to Springtown. K'Lee Flores recorded 5 kills and Sarah Arendell had 3 kills and 2 blocks in the final match.

Frenship goes 2-1 on first day at Mansfield event

MANSFIELD -- Frenship bounced back from its first loss of the season to go 2-1 on the first day of the Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Invitational. The Lady Tigers (4-1) stumbled to a loss against Coppell (25-17, 22-25, 25-19) before nabbing victories over North Crowley (25-9, 25-11) and El Paso El Dorado (25-19, 25-20). Junior setter Kayton Genenbacher was a force in the three matches with 57 assists, 10 kills and 9 aces. Madison Ramsey and Gracie Harrison chipped in with 16 kills apiece, Aaliyana Mayfield recorded 14 kills and Devyn Nairn added 11. Hannah Page contributed 47 digs and Kendall Mahaney added 23 digs.

Trinity Christian, Lubbock Christian in action at Spike Down Tournament

FORT WORTH -- The Hub City’s two largest private schools competed at the TAPPS Spike Down Tournament on Thursday with different results. The Lady Lions blazed to three wins, topping FTW Southwest (25-13, 25-15), Kennedale Fellowship (25-14, 25-13) and Waldorf (25-13, 25-15). The Lady Eagles placed third in their pool, splitting two games against Austin Regents (20-25, 25-12) and falling to Arlington Grace (25-16, 25-15) and Parish Episcopal (25-14, 25-13).
